Project Description
A school playground should give children enough variety to stay active without making the space feel crowded or difficult to supervise. That was the main focus of this recently completed outdoor school playground installation in Tuwaiq, Riyadh by Ebaza Gardens.
For this project, we developed an outdoor play area that combines climbing, sliding, swinging and movement activities in one organised layout. The finished playground includes an elevated multi-play structure, several types of slides, a multi-seat swing set and a climbing feature, all installed over artificial grass.
Instead of placing separate items randomly across the area, we arranged the playground so children could move naturally from one activity to another. They can climb onto the main platform, choose between different slides, move toward the swings, or use the nearby climbing element. This helped us make better use of the school’s available outdoor space while keeping the area open and easy to understand.
For schools planning a similar project, our guide to school and nursery playground installation in KSA explains what to consider when choosing equipment, planning the layout and preparing a play area for regular daily use.
Scope of Work: How We Built the Playground
We started by looking at the available outdoor area and planning how children would move around the playground during school break times.
The main multi-play structure was positioned as the central feature of the area. From there, the different slides were arranged in separate directions so children could choose between several ways to come back down.
The swing set was installed beside the main play structure rather than directly in front of the slide exits. This gave the swings their own movement space and helped keep the main circulation area clear.
Our work included:
- Planning the position of the main playground within the school’s outdoor area
- Assembling and fixing the elevated platforms and supporting posts
- Installing access stairs and protective handrails
- Connecting the different slide sections to the play structure
- Installing the multi-seat swing frame and individual swing seats
- Positioning the climbing activity beside the main play zone
- Checking the spacing between active play elements
- Aligning the equipment over the artificial grass surface
- Inspecting the completed installation and equipment connections
The aim was to create one complete outdoor play zone where every activity had a clear place and children could move around without different play elements interfering with each other.
Playground Equipment Installed
The Tuwaiq school project includes a mix of activities designed to keep children moving in different ways.
Multi-Level Play Structure
The main structure includes raised platforms, access stairs, protective guardrails and several connected activities. It works as the central point of the playground and gives children access to the different slides.
Enclosed Tube Slide
A colorful enclosed tube slide runs from the elevated platform down to ground level. It gives children a different experience from the open slides and adds more variety to the playground.
Spiral Slide
The spiral slide provides a turning route from the platform to the ground and adds another type of movement within the same play structure.
Straight Slide
A straight open slide gives children a simple and quick way down from the raised platform.
Double Slide
The side-by-side double slide allows two children to use the activity at the same time, making it suitable for group play during school breaks.
Access Staircase
The main staircase with handrails gives children a clear and controlled route to reach the elevated play level.
Multi-Seat Swing Set
The playground includes a separate swing frame with several individual seats, allowing multiple children to enjoy the swings at the same time.
Climbing Activity
A climbing element has been installed beside the swing area, giving children another way to use balance, grip and body movement away from the main slide structure.
Decorative Playground Features
Colorful decorative elements, including tree-style pieces and themed panels, were added to make the playground feel more lively and suitable for a school environment.
What This Playground Adds to the School
The value of this project comes from how the different activities work together inside one outdoor space.
More play choices in one area: Children can climb, slide, swing and use the climbing feature without the school needing separate zones for every activity.
Different types of slides: The tube slide, spiral slide, straight slide and double slide give children several different play experiences instead of repeating the same movement.
Encourages active outdoor play: The equipment gives children more reasons to move during break time through climbing, swinging, walking up steps and sliding.
Better use of the available school space: Combining several activities into one connected play structure helps use the outdoor area efficiently.
Suitable for several children at once: Multiple slides and several swing seats allow more children to use the playground during the same period.
Clearer supervision: The equipment remains visible from different sides of the play area, helping teachers and supervisors monitor children more easily.
A more enjoyable outdoor environment: The bright colors, multiple activities and playful design give the school a dedicated outdoor space that children can look forward to using.
Planning a Similar Playground?
This type of playground can be adapted for many different spaces, including schools, nurseries, villas, residential compounds, home gardens, public parks and other indoor or outdoor areas. The equipment and layout can be selected according to the available space, age group and expected number of users.
