Project Description

When we first walked into this school in Riyadh, the courtyard was a quiet, covered space with cheerful painted walls and not much else. Strips of blue, green, orange and pink ran along the facade, but nothing invited a child to run, climb or laugh. The school’s request was simple and sincere: give our students a place where break time feels like the best part of the day.

This case study walks through how we answered that request, from the first site visit to the final swing test. If you are a school owner, nursery manager or facility planner weighing a similar project, think of this as a behind-the-scenes look at what a well-run playground installation actually involves. For a broader view of planning and choosing equipment, our guide on school and nursery playground installation in KSA covers the wider picture.

What Was the Scope of Work?

We supplied, delivered, assembled and anchored two complete play zones, and prepared the ground beneath them so children could use them safely from day one.

The work unfolded in clear stages:

  1. Site assessment. We measured the courtyard, noted the tensile shade overhead, checked wall distances and decided where each unit could sit without crowding walkways or doors.
  2. Layout planning. One play tower with slides was positioned against the main wall, a swing set beside it, and a second, separate zone was placed on the opposite side of the courtyard. This left a wide open centre for free running and school gatherings.
  3. Ground preparation. Interlocking rubber-style safety tiles were laid across the play area, with a strip of artificial turf along the wall edge for a softer, greener finish.
  4. Assembly and anchoring. Steel posts and frames were fixed firmly into the ground, plastic components were joined, and every bolt, chain link and connection was checked by hand.
  5. Final inspection. Before handing over, our team tested slide surfaces, swing seats and climbing sections for stability, smooth edges and secure fastenings.

Because the school was operating, we organised the work around the timetable to keep noise and disruption to a minimum.

Which Equipment Did We Install?

The courtyard now holds two separate play areas, each built for a different style of play.

Zone one: the multi-activity play tower and swing set

  • A large spiral tube slides in orange, blue, yellow and green, curving down from the tower in a gentle twist.
  • A wide twin-lane straight slide for children who prefer a straight, quick descent.
  • A climbing and railing section with protective guard panels around the platform.
  • Playful toppers shaped like a bee, a butterfly and a flower, mounted on the purple support posts so the structure looks like a small toy town.
  • A swing frame with a green top bar and red A-shaped legs, carrying a toddler bucket seat plus two flat belt seats on chains.

Zone two: the themed tower across the courtyard

  • A tower topped with an orange dome-style roof and a palm-shaped accent, giving the corner a storybook look.
  • A tube slide and a bright green straight slide leaving from different sides of the platform.
  • A second swing set with a blue frame and red seats, placed against the deep blue feature wall.

The colours were chosen on purpose. They echo the painted stripes on the walls, so the equipment feels like part of the building rather than an add-on.

What Are the Benefits of a Playground Like This for a School?

A well-designed school playground supports children physically, socially and emotionally, and it does so every single day.

  • Stronger bodies. Climbing, sliding and swinging build balance, grip strength and coordination, which classroom chairs simply cannot.
  • Better social skills. Waiting for a turn on the slide, helping a younger friend onto a swing or inventing a game around the tower teaches cooperation without a lesson plan.
  • Calmer, more focused classes. Children who burn off energy at break often return to lessons more settled and ready to listen.
  • Age-appropriate choice. The toddler bucket seat and low platforms suit smaller children, while taller slides and climbing sections challenge older ones, so one courtyard serves several age groups.
  • Safer falls. The tiled surface and turf edging reduce the impact of the little slips every active child has.
  • A happier campus. Parents notice it during pick-up, and children talk about it at home. A bright play area quietly raises the whole feel of a school.

How Do You Plan a Playground That Fits Your Space?

This project reinforced a few lessons we pass on to every client. Start from the available area and the age of the children, not from a catalogue. Keep clear space between each piece of equipment so children are never forced into crowded exits. Choose durable, UV-resistant materials for the Saudi climate, and make the safety surface part of the plan from the very beginning rather than an afterthought. Finally, pick colours that suit the surroundings, because a playground that blends with its setting is looked after more carefully.

Conclusion

Seeing children step into a courtyard that was empty only days earlier is the part of this work we never get tired of. The school now has a space that invites movement, friendship and laughter, built carefully and handed over ready to use.

The same approach works well beyond schools. If you are planning a playground for a nursery, villa garden, residential compound, public park, home backyard or an indoor play area, the Ebaza Gardens team can look at your space, suggest equipment that suits your children and manage the installation from first measurement to final safety check. Reach out to Ebaza Gardens, and we will help you create a safe place where fun, play and happiness come together.
