Project Description

A bare courtyard behind a finished house rarely looks like a problem until a child asks where they can play. That question, from a family in Al Malaz, Riyadh, started this home playground installation. Their walled courtyard had polished granite floors and cream stone walls, but no swing, no slide and nothing to climb on.

Ebaza Gardens took on the job from the first tape measure to the final bolt check. Over a few days, the empty courtyard gained a play tower with a slide, a three-seat swing set and a spinning horse carousel. This case study explains how the work was done and what the family now has because of it.

How Did a Quiet Al Malaz Courtyard Become a Children’s Playground?

Some of our favourite projects start with a simple sentence from the homeowner. In Al Malaz, it was: “The kids keep asking where they can play at home.”

The family’s house was well finished, with cream stone walls, polished granite floors and a walled courtyard. But the courtyard sat empty, and the kids spent their days inside. That is a lot of wasted space. It was private, fenced in and safe from the street.

We went to the site, measured the open floor and tracked where the sun and shade moved through the day. Then we designed a playground for that exact courtyard instead of placing a ready-made set in it. Below is what we built and how we did it.

What Was the Scope of Work and How Did We Build It?

Site survey and layout. We took measurements of the courtyard and the garden corner, and marked where each wall stood. We also checked what the ground was made of. Granite tiles and artificial turf can’t be fixed down the same way, so each one needs its own anchoring plan. Each piece was then placed with generous clear space around it. The slide exit and the swing path, for example, never overlap.

Choosing the equipment. We matched the pieces to the children’s ages and to the look of the house. The bright plastic parts balance against deep purple and red steel posts, so the playground looks cheerful without clashing with the neutral walls.

Fabrication and delivery. The steel frames, posts and swing beam were prepared with a coloured protective finish. The plastic components, such as the slide, panels and character toppers, were brought in as finished, rounded-edge pieces.

On-site installation. Our team set the tower’s vertical posts first and checked them for level before building outward. The platform, arch panel and slide were fitted next. The swing frame, with its angled legs and top beam, was then fixed in position, followed by the chains and seats. Finally, the horse carousel was mounted on its rotating base in the garden area.

Final safety check. Before handing over, we tested every bolt, joint and swing hanger. We also spun the carousel and slid down the slide ourselves to confirm everything moved smoothly and nothing pinched or snagged.

What Equipment Did We Install?

Compact play tower with wave slide. A raised platform with a green arched entry and a red character panel sits on purple posts. The topper figures are a yellow monkey, an orange butterfly and a green palm-leaf. A curved blue slide, with a little fish-eye detail at the bottom, leads children back down.

Three-seat swing set. A red A-frame steel structure carries three flat belt-style seats, two in dark grey-green and one in yellow. They hang from chains with strong swivel hangers, so three children can swing at once.

Four-seat horse carousel. A round blue platform holds colourful animal-shaped seats in red, yellow and green, each with a curved handlebar. Children can sit on the seats and spin, push the carousel themselves or take turns pushing each other.

What Are the Benefits of Having a Playground at Home?

Children can play any time. There is no need to wait for a weekend trip to a park. A short free hour after school is enough.

Parents can watch from inside the house. The courtyard is visible from the home, so supervision is easy and nobody has to travel anywhere.

Different pieces build different skills. Climbing the tower strengthens the legs and core, swinging develops balance, and the carousel trains grip and coordination. Taking turns on shared equipment also teaches patience and cooperation.

Cooler hours become active hours. Riyadh’s heat limits outdoor time, but a home playground lets children use early mornings and evenings without leaving the house.

Screen time drops. With something this inviting outside, children choose to go out and play on their own.

The space looks better. The playground adds colour and character to an otherwise plain courtyard, and the family now has a place for gatherings.

Conclusion

The Al Malaz project proves that a small private courtyard can turn into a real play space. It took a good plan, the right installation and equipment that fits the area. Today the courtyard has a tower, a slide, swings and a carousel. It is fenced in, safe and open to the family any time they want it.
