Project Description

Ebaza Gardens recently completed a new outdoor playground installation at KFUPM in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, creating a larger recreation area with several types of play equipment instead of relying on one play structure alone.

The completed site includes two multi-activity playground systems, different slide designs, swings, rotating play equipment, a seesaw and other activities arranged across a red rubber play surface. The equipment has been spaced around the area so children can move between climbing, sliding, swinging and group activities without all of the play being concentrated in one point.

The blue, grey and white equipment also fits neatly with the surrounding KFUPM residential-style buildings, while the bright rubber flooring clearly separates the children’s play zone from the surrounding paved areas.

Scope of Work – How the Playground Was Installed

The installation began with a site assessment and marking of the equipment positions. After confirming the layout, the required fixing points were prepared and excavated where foundations were needed.

The playground structures were then positioned, leveled, and secured using concrete foundations or mechanical anchors, depending on the installation point. After assembly, all bolts, joints, moving parts, and swing connections were checked for stability.

The rubber flooring was completed around the equipment, followed by a final inspection of the installed structures, clearances, surface condition, and overall site before handover.

Playground Equipment Installed

Large Multi-Activity Playground Structure

The largest play structure forms one of the main activity areas of the playground. It includes several elevated platforms connected through climbing and access sections, giving children different routes through the equipment instead of one fixed way up and down. Multiple slide options are connected to the structure, allowing several children to use different parts of the playset at the same time.

Second Multi-Activity Playground Structure

A second playground system was installed in another part of the site. Its lower and more compact arrangement adds another play zone and helps spread children across the playground instead of placing the full demand on the larger structure.

Double Straight Slides

Wide double slides allow two children to slide side by side and provide an easy-to-use activity directly from the elevated platforms.

Spiral Slides

Curved spiral slides add a longer descending route and provide a different experience from the straight slides.

Enclosed Tube Slide

The larger play structure also includes an enclosed tube slide, creating another route from the raised platform to ground level.

Single Straight Slides

Additional single slides are connected to the playground structures, giving children several choices depending on which section of the equipment they are using.

Climbing and Access Elements

Steps, ladders, vertical climbing elements and raised access sections connect the different levels of the playground. These components make climbing part of the activity rather than simply providing access to the slides.

Rope and Connecting Play Sections

The main structure includes connecting sections that allow children to move between platforms without immediately returning to ground level.

Swing Set

A separate swing structure was installed away from the main slide areas. Keeping the swings in their own operating zone provides the required movement space in front of and behind the seats and keeps swinging activity separate from children using the play structures.

Children’s Merry-Go-Round

A circular merry-go-round with multiple seating positions provides a group activity where several children can play together.

Animal-Themed Rotating Play Equipment

A separate rotating unit with multiple animal-shaped seats adds another group play option, particularly for younger children.

Seesaw

A traditional two-sided seesaw was installed as another independent activity within the playground.

Red Rubber Playground Flooring

The play equipment is installed over a continuous red rubber surface that clearly defines the recreation area from the surrounding hardscape. The rubber flooring also provides a more suitable play surface around active equipment than exposed concrete or paving.

Benefits of the Completed Playground

More Than One Main Play Zone

One practical advantage of this KFUPM project is that the playground does not depend on a single structure. With two separate multi-activity systems and additional freestanding equipment, children can spread across the site. This is particularly useful in a community setting where several families may use the playground at the same time.

Different Types of Play in One Area

The playground supports more than sliding alone. Children can climb, swing, rotate, balance, move between raised platforms and play together on group equipment. This gives them more reasons to continue using the space instead of repeating the same activity.

Better Movement Around the Playground

Swings, rotating equipment and seesaws have been positioned away from the busiest slide exits. This separation creates clearer activity zones and helps keep the main circulation paths around the playground more organized.

Suitable for Group Play

Several elements are designed for more than one child at a time, including the double slides, merry-go-round and multi-seat rotating equipment. This makes the area useful not only for individual play but also for interaction between children.

A Defined Recreation Area

The red rubber surface visually separates the playground from the surrounding streets, pathways and buildings. It gives the completed project the appearance of one planned recreation area rather than individual pieces of equipment placed independently around the site.

Better Use of an Outdoor Community Space

For a site such as KFUPM, a properly equipped playground gives families a dedicated outdoor area close to the surrounding residential buildings. Instead of leaving the recreation area with only basic equipment, the completed project provides several activities that can serve children with different play interests.

Conclusion

This KFUPM project shows how a larger outdoor area can be divided into several useful play zones instead of filling the site with one oversized structure. With multiple playground systems, slides, swings, climbing activities, rotating equipment, a seesaw and rubber flooring, the finished area offers children a wider mix of activities while making good use of the available space.

The same approach can be adapted to very different sites. A school may need higher-capacity equipment and clearly separated age groups, while a villa or home garden may require a more compact arrangement. Public parks, residential compounds and indoor play areas will each have their own space, flooring and installation requirements.

If you are planning a playground for a school, nursery, university or residential campus, villa, home garden, public park, residential compound, indoor play area or any other recreational space, contact Ebaza Gardens team and it will help you with site planning, suitable equipment selection, ground preparation, installation and final checking.

The goal is to build a playground that works properly for the actual site and gives children one dedicated place where play, movement and fun can come together in a safe and well-organized environment.
