Project Description
Al Wurud is one of those Riyadh neighbourhoods where evenings come alive. Families stroll along the paved paths, friends sit on the park benches under the trees, and the streetlights glow well into the night. What the park did not have was a spot made for children. Kids ran along the pathways, parents hovered nearby, and everyone was clearly ready for something more.
That is where our team came in. We were asked to install a public playground that could handle crowds of children at once, look striking after dark and stay dependable in daily use. This case study shares how the project came together, from the first conversation to the first night it was filled with laughter.
What Did the Installation Work Involve?
We planned the layout, prepared and surfaced the play area, fixed every structure into the ground and tested each moving part before the park opened to the public.
Here is how we worked through it:
- Walking the park. We studied foot traffic, the position of benches, trees and lighting, and the steps nearby, so the playground would sit where parents could easily see it from the seating area.
- Choosing the right pieces. A public park serves children of many ages at once, so we selected equipment that lets several kids play together instead of queuing for one swing.
- Surfacing the ground. Rubber safety tiles were laid across the whole play zone to create a cushioned, even and slip-resistant base.
- Anchoring the structures. Each steel leg was set into the ground with secured concrete footings, which keeps the frames steady even with many children using them together.
- Fitting and testing. Seats, ropes, rings and chains were attached, and we checked every connection point, swing movement and climbing grip before handover.
The colour we chose was a strong yellow powder-coated finish, picked so the structures stay highly visible in the evening light.
What Equipment Was Installed in the Park?
The playground centres on two different play experiences.
The circular multi-play unit
- A large ring-shaped yellow steel frame that children can play on from every side
- Curved climbing net panels
- Overhead ring and rung sections for hanging and swinging from hand to hand
- A rope with a disc seat
- Chain swings with standard seats
- A face-to-face two-seat swing for shared riding
- Side ladders and climbing steps
The nest swing
- A large round nest-style swing with a woven net seat and a blue rim, big enough for several children to sit or lie on together
- A tall curved yellow arch frame with three supporting legs
- Heavy-duty steel hooks, bolted swing hangers, stainless carabiner links and dark chain connections
The surface
- Interlocking rubber safety tiles covering the full play area
How Does a Playground Benefit a Public Park?
A public playground turns a place people walk through into a place people stay.
- More time outdoors. Families linger longer when children have something to do, which gives the park a lively, social feel in the evenings.
- Active play for every age. Little ones can try the swings while older children challenge themselves on the nets, rings and climbing bars.
- Community connection. Parents chat, children make friends and neighbours who never met are suddenly sharing a bench.
- Shared play, not queues. The circular design lets many children use different parts at once, so no one waits long for a turn.
- Safer enjoyment. Cushioned flooring and solid, firmly fixed frames lower the risk of injury during busy sessions.
- A park worth visiting. Well-designed play areas give the neighbourhood a reason to return, and that lifts the value of the whole public space.
Conclusion
The best moment of this project came on the first evening, when the playground was suddenly full of children climbing, swinging and calling to each other while families watched from the benches nearby. Al Wurud Park now has a lively centre that gives the neighbourhood a reason to gather.
